Guardians of the Galaxy 2's director, James Gunn, revealed that casting Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet was all Chris Pratt's idea.
We're all agreed that having Kurt Russell play Chris Pratt's father in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was a stroke of genius. Kurt Russell's perfect for the role. We can really imagine him as Peter Quill's, a.k.a. Star-Lord, dad. He's basically been playing a version of Peter Quill for years. He shares the same cool swagger and charm that Pratt has in spades. We know that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will focus on Star-Lord and his Guardians' search for his father, and at this year's Comic-Con we learned that Kurt Russell will be playing Quill's dad, as Ego the Living Planet. James Gunn has now revealed that casting Kurt Russell was all Chris Pratt's idea.
During an interview with Empire Magazine, James Gunn revealed that Chris Pratt was the one who came up with the bright idea of casting Russell as Peter Quill's father in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. “He [Kurt Russell] was actually not in my head initially, but one day Chris suggested him,” explained Gunn. "And I would have been really disappointed if he’d said no. Hey, if you have to cast anything, Kurt’s a pretty good way to go.” Then Chris Pratt explained how it won't be the perfect father son reunion that Star-Lord was hoping for. “You’re going to see these characters having to endure the realities of being in a family,” said Pratt. “You’re talking about a guy who’s been longing to know who his father is for a long time. He’ll discover if that person lives up to the expectations he has in his head.” Are you looking forward to seeing Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet?
