The 6'3" glory that is Gwendoline Christie was at the Screen Actors Guild Awards over the weekend, where she teased her return to Star Wars Episode 8 as Captain Phasma!
You don't have to go head and shoulders above the competition to get the outstanding Gwendoline Christie to tell you she had a blast juggling HBO and Star Wars. She for one won't look down her nose at you if you ask about her Captain Phasma role in Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens. "I was very overexcited," she condescended in an interview with People Magazine from the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet. "I made no secret of the fact that I really campaigned for the part for a long time." The West Sussex native went above and beyond in her enthusiasm for the role. "I thought the costume was incredibly striking. I also just liked this notion of a female stormtrooper. I felt it encouraged diversity and it was doing something new and it was an interesting bit of casting for women," she said at length.
But that's not the only thing that had Christie reaching for the stars. For the first time ever, we got a bird's-eye view of the future of Star Wars, in which Captain Phasma will play a sizeable part. "I will be in the next Star Wars movie. I think that's an exclusive, actually," she highlighted. But we can all agree that meeting the demands of Hollywood's creativity drain, as George Lucas characterized it, is a tall order. In a previous interview with BuzzFeed, the Game of Thrones actress explains how he Stormstrooper role had grown on her. "What this does is this takes all of our preconceptions, all of our conventions about the way in which we view a woman, and strips them away. We are actually responding to this character because of her actions, first and foremost, rather than the way that she looks." In other words, the sky's the limit. Do you think Christie will reach even greater heights from here?
