Three new actors have been added to the Stranger Things Season 2 roster, including The Goonies and Lord of the Rings star Sean Astin. Read on for more details about the new additions and their characters

Our friends over at Entertainment Weekly have reported that three new actors have joined the Stranger Things Season 2 cast. We're most excited to see Sean Astin, who starred in The Goonies which Stranger Things is frequently compared to, join the hit Netflix series. Astin will play Bob Newby, who's described as “a kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.” EW suggests that Bob's RadioShack connections could somehow come in handy to help out the kids, you know with their love for walkie talkies and all. Then there's Aliens alum Paul Reiser, who will play Dr. Owens, “a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a ‘clean-up’ assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year.” EW posits that Reiser could be Season 2's villain, especially given his role as the baddie in Aliens.

Last month it was announced that four new characters would be introduced in Stranger Things' sophomore season. Sadie Sink was cast as a girl named Max, and Dacre Montgomery signed on as Max's teenage older brother Billy. It was also revealed that a new character would be in Joyce's life and there will be another who works in the labs where Eleven was tested on. We think it's pretty clear that Reiser's Dr. Owens is the latter character, and it seems that Astin's Bob Newby is the new character in Joyce's life. But that's not all! Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen has been cast as Roman, “an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab…” Perhaps Roman will have similar powers to Eleven, who has basically been confirmed to return in Season 2! What do you think about the latest Stranger Things additions?
