The Walking Dead Season 7: Jeffrey Dean Morgan explains why Negan isn't the villain

The Walking Dead Season 7 will see the full extent of Negan's wrath rip through the hearts of the survivors. But, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is here to tell us that the villain may not be the bad guy we believe him to be...

The Walking Dead Season 7 will see Negan, leader of the Saviors, kill one of the survivors who we know and love before the rest of their group, and from this point the series as we know it will never be the same again. It's hard therefore, to wrap our heads around why exactly Jeffrey Dean Morgan believes his character is not necessarily the villain we all see Negan as. Speaking with Cinemablend, Morgan explained, "I see the other side of the coin. If we followed Negan's story for the last seven years, he'd be our hero, and someone like Rick, who rips the throat out of people, would be the bad guy... No matter who Negan kills, Rick and his survivors still killed 20 or 30 of my men. So, yeah, we keep kind of forgetting about that in the evilness that is Negan. So it's walking a little bit of a tightrope with the character and trying to make him real. But at the same time, I'm feeling justified in whatever I'm doing." Who knows what the Saviors have been through to get to this point?

Unfortunate as it is, Negan has given a purpose to the entirety of his band of Saviors, and who knows what state they'd be in if it weren't for him. Recently, writer and creator Robert Kirkman began releasing a series of comics detailing Negan's backstory, before he became the leader of the biggest enemy community we've seen so far. What Negan, Rick, and the Governor have all shown us, is that nobody can be truly good in this post-apocalyptic world, and in fact it's easier to be a tyrant than a saint. Following the news that The Walking Dead has been renewed for Season 8, we'll be seeing a lot more of Negan's way of leading his community, and the lengths that they will all go to ensure that they always come out on top. Do yo see Negan as the villain he's made out to be?
