It's official! We now know who Kurt Russell is playing in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and it might puzzle you a bit. He's going to portray Ego The Living Planet (who?) and will be Star Lord's father (WTF)!

So we've been wondering for ages now who Kurt Russell will be playing in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and we were finally given the answer at San Diego Comic-Con. The announcement was made during Marvel's Comic-Con panel and was met with whoops and cheers but also slight bemusement. People were like, "YES! Kurt Russell is Star Lord's dad!" And then they paused for a moment and thought, "but who, or what, is Ego The Living Planet, and how can a planet father children?" Well, at least most people who weren't so familiar with the comic books were asking themselves that question. Yet, even those who already knew about Ego were slightly confused.

Along with Michael Rooker coming onstage dressed as his character Yondu, sporting a new giant head fin, Kurt Russell also blessed the audience with his presence. We've all been speculating about his character, who's been kept under wraps by Marvel for a while now, but they finally decided to give the fans the answer they were looking for. Who is Kurt Russell playing and will he be Star Lord's dad? The answer was Ego The Living Planet and yes, he is Star Lord's dad. Guardians 2's plot synopsis highlighted their search for Peter Quill's real father, so it sounds like they'll be looking for this planet, who we learned is also the father of Mantis' - the latest addition to the Guardians team. How on 'Earth' could a planet father two children? We'll have to wait until the film hit theatres on May 5th, 2017 to find out. Are you excited about Ego being Star Lord's dad?
