The Weeknd turns to the Dark Side in his new 'Starboy' music video

The Weeknd has been gifting us with captivating music since 2010, and he's back to grace us with a new album Starboy, and his first music video of the same name sees the artist turning to the dark side...

The Weeknd, or Abel Tesfaye as he's known to his friends and fans, first introduced us to his music when he released the nine-track mixtape House of Balloons in 2011, after releasing a succession of songs on YouTube in 2010. Tesfaye has come a long way since then, as in 2012 he treated fans to Trilogy, a combination of all of his previously released mixtapes and EPs. Then, in 2013 he released his first studio album Kiss Land, before making himself a household name in 2015 with the platinum selling Beauty Behind the Madness. Following this success, the Toronto star has performed verses on albums for Travis Scott, Kanye West and Beyoncé's groundbreaking Lemonade. Tesfaye is set to make history once again, as he announced the name and release date of his new album Starboy on his Twitter page, followed by the release of the first single of the same name with a music video that's set to take his fame to new heights.

The Weeknd uses Starboy to mark his transition into a new era of his music, as he suffocates his old self to death, to then reveal his new image. Exchanging his familiar suit and white shirt for black leathers, and cutting off his dreadlocks which he began growing out in 2011, the new Starboy takes a neon cross to his awards and accolades by smashes them to pieces before setting his old wardrobe alight. This isn't the first time we've seen Tesfaye in a different light, especially after seeing him break bad in the video for Future's Low Life, and Starboy is set to take this new persona further. The colour palette of this video clip matches that of the album cover, and given the name of the two, Starboy is likely to explore the seedy depths of fame from the new, elevated world which Beauty Behind the Madness flung him too. The Weeknd's Starboy will be released on November 25, 2016. What do you think of The Weeknd's new music video?
